Board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation. Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (FAAPMR).
I care for adults — pelvic floor, hypermobility, and neurorehabilitation. Spasticity and dystonia. Cerebral palsy as people move into adult care and as they age. Stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, amputation and limb difference. TMJ, scapular, and pelvic floor when holding tension is the problem. Performing arts medicine is part of how I practice. So is adaptive sport — para-athletes competing at a high level in bodies the world often underestimates.
I use ultrasound and EMG guidance for botulinum toxin injections when treating spasticity and dystonia. Separately, I do ultrasound- and EMG-guided trigger point injections and ultrasound-guided joint and bursa injections (shoulders, knees, hips).
Most recently I was an assistant professor at UCSF, where I built the general physiatry service, grew pelvic floor and hypermobility care, and did diagnostic EMG. Before that I was associate medical director of the acute rehab unit at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz.
Duke MD. Duke undergrad in International Comparative Studies and global health (Angier B. Duke Scholar) — and a varsity fencer. Internship at UCSF Fresno. Residency at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago — the top PM&R program, at the rehab hospital ranked #1 for 36 years running — including a performing arts medicine rotation with on-call coverage for performers at Ravinia. Hearst Resident Leadership Award. McKinsey MD fellow.
I’ve published and presented on rehab and global health topics, and volunteered in Ecuador, Mexico, Romania, Turkey, Austria, and Haiti. I love mentoring the next generation of physicians and therapists.
I grew up in South Texas and Spain. Medical interpreter training in Spanish. English, Spanish, Turkish, or German — I can care for you in any of them.
Outside clinic: husband, two kids, time outdoors together, and a mediocre clarinet habit that keeps me humble.
This is a new solo practice. It is not a hospital clinic.
